You are bidding on the exact record shown in my photos. This is a nice collector’s item. It is the original RCA Victor Sky Blue Vinyl Record (51-0000) by Saul Meisels as released in March 1949. This is one of the first seven 45s ever released. They were all released at the same time.
**Please Note: I am separately listing the rare 51-0005 (Maurice Chevalier) also at this time.**
The initial records were color coded for classification of music.
Series 47-0000 Children's - Yellow vinyl
Series 47-2000 Popular- Black vinyl
Series 48-0000 Country and Western - Green vinyl
Series 49-0000 Classical - Red vinyl
Series 50-0000 Blues and Rhythm – Cerise vinyl
Series 51-0000 International - Sky blue vinyl
Series 52-0000 Popular Classical - Midnight blue vinyl
The above color scheme didn’t really catch on and the numbering systems eventually changed also.
The songs are “A Klein Melamedl (The Little Teacher)” b/w “Shabes Hamavdil (Hassidic)”.
Saul Meisels (1907-1990) served as cantor of congregation B'nai Jeshurun Congregation ( Temple on the Heights), Cleveland Heights, Ohio, from 1942-1979, and was considered one of the foremost interpreters of Yiddish song in the United States. He received formal vocal training at Julliard School of Music. He also served as president of the Cantors Assembly.
Vinyl Condition: The vinyl is in VG+ condition (based on Goldmine shown below). The labels are intact with minimal storage wear. There is no writing or stickers on the labels. One label does have a slight discoloration over the letter “V” in Victor on the label caused by an old piece of scotch tape now gone. Please see all photos. The record plays completely and beautifully on my Fisher system with light noise throughout but no skips. I will ship it in an older plain sleeve. Unfortunately, the original RCA sleeve has been lost.
Important Additional Condition Notes: I apologize for trying to describe it so much, but this is an important record. There are a few scuffs and many light surface non-feelable scratches. These are not readily apparent on my photos. One close-up attempts to show some. Please contact me before bidding if you have any questions or concerns.
Free Shipping in the USA via USPS First-Class Package Service which includes Delivery Confirmation with a tracking number. I will ship the record in a white poly mailer bag with sturdy cardboard to help prevent damage.
Goldmine Very Good Plus [VG+]: Shows some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience.
