-Mini bio: The Scientists are an influential post-punk band from Perth, Australia led by Kim Salmon, initially known as Exterminators and then Invaders. The band had two primary incarnations: the Perth-based punk band of the late 1970's and the Sydney-London based swamp-rock band of the 1980's. The Scientists were much more influential than their minimal commercial success would indicate, lending their influence to artists such as Seattle's Mudhoney and New York's downtown indie scene of the early 1990's.

-Kim Salmon had formed a proto punk band, the Cheap Nasties, in August, 1976. He left in December 1977. Salmon then replaced Mark Demetrius in the Exterminators who then became the Invaders. The lineup included Roddy Ralalj (guitar, vocals), Boris Sujdovic (bass) and John Rowlings (drums). The Invaders became the Scientists in May 1978 when James Baker from the Victims replaced John Rowlings. The songwriting partnership that evolved from this new lineup with Baker writing lyrics and Salmon the music, naturally leaned towards a melodic pop infused style of punk.

-The band started playing gigs together in January 1979 with Dennis Byrne on bass. This lineup recorded the band's first single ; Frantic Romantic / Shake (Together Tonight) , released in June 1979 on the D.N. A. record label. 

-The Scientists' musical direction would turn more towards psychedelic-tinged rock & roll that later would become known as grunge, which would later explode in Seattle. The band would break up in November 1987 with Salmon going on to form King Salmon & The Surrealists.

-Titles: Frantic Romantic / Shake (Together Tonight)

-Frantic Romantic was written by Salmon, Baker and Sujdovic and is a melodic pop-infused punk rocker with lead vocals from Kim Salmon and good instrumentation including guitar, bass and drums with an excellent guitar solo.

-Shake (Together Tonight) also written by The Scientists is a fast-tempo punk rocker with terrific lead vocals, percolating bass, wild guitar solo and fine time-keeping...kick-ass punk at its best!

(M) Mint: We don't use this grade as no record is perfect, even SS records can have tiny flaws.

(SS) Still sealed: Still sealed in the factory shrink wrap.

(M-) Mint minus: A nearly perfect record. The record will show no obvious signs of wear. Original finish intact. Picture sleeves should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

(VG+) Very good plus: The record will show some signs that it was played or otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or light scratches. Picture sleeves may have some slight ring wear, lightly turned up corners, or a small seam split.

(VG) Very good: Many of the defects found in a VG+ record or sleeve will be more pronounced in a VG record or picture sleeve. Groove wear may be noticeable, the record may have light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound, but the foreign noises will be less prominent than the music. Picture sleeves may have quite prominent ring wear. Creases, folds, seam splits and tears will be more obvious and may appear on all three sides, and there may be writing as well.

(VG-) Very good minus: Foreign noises may be about as prominent as the music. The record still plays through without skipping. The picture sleeve will have more significant seam splits, perhaps to the point where they were taped closed, and highly obvious ring wear and heavier writing. Can serve as a filler until a better one comes along.

(G) Good: We seldom offer a good record for sale unless it is particularily rare for the following reasons: Foreign noises are louder than the recorded music and listening can be distracted by the noise. May or may not play through without skipping, but should be so noted. Picture sleeves are so badly seam split that they may not be able to contain the record within.Tears, folds, writing and ring wear may be overwheming.
