LYNN WICKHAM LYNN WICKHAM is Professor of Voice at Union College where he also directs the Unionaires and teaches Vocal Pedagogy and Choral Conducting. Mr. Wickham holds a master's degree from the University of Minnesota and a diploma from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He has done additional study at the University of Southern California. Over the 26 years of his career, Mr. Wickham's students have consistently taken top awards in competi ions from the state to the national level. A number of his students are currently singing professionally both in the United States and Europe. Mr. Wickham and the Unionaires recently returned from a five-week tour of Europe, where they gave concerts in nine countries and were guest artists with the Kristiansand Symphony in Norway under the direction of Jon Robertson. The Unionaires enjoy an enviable reputation as one of the finest choral ensembles in the Midwest. Mr. Wickham has appeared as tenor soloist with orchestras on the west coast and in the Midwest and has been a frequent soloist in oratorio. JOHN DAVID DeHAAN JOHN DAVID DeHAAN directs the Collegiate Chorale at Union College, where he also teaches voice and singer's diction classes. He is presently studying for a master's degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where he holds an opera assistantship. He is also a Minister of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. Mr. DeHaan has won many awards and voice competitions. In 1979, he was a national finalist in the college voice competition of the National Music Teachers Association. In 1980, he was one of twelve singers chosen nationally for the National Art Song Symposium to work with three internationally known vocal coaches. Also in 1980, he was a Young Artist winner in the Omaha Morning Musicale. In recent years, he has won numerous state and regional awards in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition. Mr. DeHaan has appeared as guest soloist with the Redlands, California Symphony, The Kristiansand Norway Symphony and the Nebraska Chamber Orchestra. He is presently singing the tenor role of Luigi in Il Tabarro with the University of Nebraska Opera Theatre. Mr. DeHaan's voice studies have been with Lynn Wickham, Professor of Voice at Union College. He has also studied with such renowned vocal coaches as Martin Katz, Gerhard Huesch, Horst Gunter, Robert Evans and Judith Raskin. VACLAV NELHYBEL VACLAVNELHYBEL, renowned symphonic band composer, will come to Union College as artist-in-residence February 2-5. While on the Union College campus Nelhybel will conduct the Mid-America Music Festival Band, selected high school students from nine states. He has served as a visiting music clinician in nearly all of the United States. Nelhybel, a native of Czechoslovakia, studied composition and conducting at the Prague Conservatory and musicology at the University of Prague. He was musical director for Radio Free Europe from 1950-57, and became a U.S. citizen in 1962. Noted for his compositions for symphonic band, Nelhybel has also written works for organ, brass, and timpani, as well as two operas, three ballets, several concerti, and numerous other compositions. His opera "Everyman" was broadcast by the Public Broadcasting System after being performed before the American Opera Association convention in 1977. In 1980, his "Fables for All Time" for chorus, soloists, orchestra, and narrator was commissioned for the 35th United Nations Anniversary.
