Kiril Kondrashin became an overnight sensation when he accompanied Van Cliburn's celebrated RCA Victor recording of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto in 1958. In October of that same year, RCA captured Kondrashin leading a hand-picked ensemble of New York's most celebrated orchestral musicians in performances of two of Russia's most popular and colorful orchestral masterpieces, Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien and Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio espagnol.
