Album Review for "Swimmer"

Steven Lindsay's songwriting, like his singing, is tasteful, cultured (two references to painter Andrew Wyeth in the first five songs, including one titled after his masterpiece, "Christina's World"), and a bit dull. The guitars chime, the machine-made beats burble, and Lindsay contemplates existence, from dead-end "Prospect Street" to a "Big New Beginning" in what sounds suspiciously like L.A. But there is a difference between swimming and treading water that he doesn't seem to recognize.

The Big Dish biography by John Bush

The Scottish pop trio Big Dish formed in 1983 around vocalist and guitarist Steven Lindsay, guitarist Brian McFie, bassist Raymond Docherty, and saxophone/keyboard player Ian Ritchie. Signed to Virgin by 1986, the group released the album Swimmer, which pleased critics but failed to reach the charts. Second LP Creeping Up on Jesus also failed to ignite despite several excellent songs, and Big Dish were dropped from Virgin after the label's attempts to request song material were rebuffed. Essentially a duo of Lindsay and McFie by the turn of the decade, Big Dish signed to EastWest and released Satellites in 1991.

This sealed album is being sold as a collector's item and cannot be returned due to manufacturer's defects. It may be almost impossible to replace many of the sealed albums I am selling. If I am aware of any defects, I will list it in the notes and pictures above.

International Shipping

• If you purchase multiple items, please wait until you've made all your purchases so I can send you an invoice with your correct postage.
• The buyer is responsible for all customs regulations and fees in their own country.
• If the total weight of your package is 4 pounds or more, the Post Office requires it must be shipped by International Priority Mail. This is their policy, not mine. If it helps, I can try to calculate First Class postage for multiple shipments, but it usually ends up cheaper sending everything in one box by Priority.
