Seeburg Background Music Records for BMS 1000, 16 2/3 RPM - Industrial

Up for your consideration is one set of seven (7) Seeburg Background Music Library records which were used in the Seeburg Background Music System from approximately 1959 through the early 1980's.

These records have a place in use date of July 1, 1972 and are of the Industrial format.

***** PLEASE NOTE: Most of the records for this listing are in POOR condition, hence the low starting bid of $1.00 (see description below and photos for details).

I played these once on a modified turntable to listen to them and this set has known issues. Some play ok and some do not. Condition with corresponding number is listed below:

• IND-104A has a defect, all the way around the record. You can hear hiss and there are scratches that affect the play. Record skips repeatedly.
• IND-104B an abrasion towards the end which may affect play although it played fine for me.
• IND-108A/B looks to be pretty clean with a few bruises that did not affect play.
• IND-112A/B looks to be pretty clean with a few bruises and scratches that did not affect play.
• IND-116A – abrasion on side 1 that affects first track with skipping and static on other tracks.
• IND-116B, looks pretty clean with a couple of small bruises.
• IND-120A has a skip on the first track, another skip in the middle of the track, a skip ¾ of the way through the track and another skip 3rd to last track.
• IND-120B looks ok with wear. There is a line abrasion in the track towards the end. I do not recall it affecting play.
• IND-124A – BAD CONDITION! - too many problems to play.
• IND-124B – looks like the label shifted during pressing. Many scratches but played all the way through with no issues.
• IND-128A, looks clean with some tiny scratches at the beginning of record.
• IND-128B – abrasion at the beginning of record that did not affect playing.

Records are 9 inches in diameter and have a center hole of approximately 2 inches in diameter. They play at a speed of 16 2/3 rpm.

These types of records were originally played in a Seeburg BMS player which was used in Grocery Stores, Department Stores, Motels, Factories, etc., to broadcast background music over the PA system. Seeburg put out three formats, Basic, Mood and Industrial.

Replacements were issued quarterly. The subscriber of the service was to change out 5 or 7 discs, based on the number on the record label and send back the used discs that were removed from the machine. Failure to do so resulted in the subscriber being charged an additional 22 cents per month for each record not returned, according to the instructions on the box. Records, once returned, were never used again and presumably destroyed.

I will be listing numerous sets of these records over the next few weeks. Most of my collection is Seeburg but I also have a few odds and ends labeled, Rowe Customusic, a competitor of Seeburg.
