Rachmaninovs five Etudes were orchestrated by the Italian composer Respighi who wasexperienced in the Russian approach. Rachmaninov offered Respighi some cryptic hints about the inspiration behind each tableaux & these gave rise tothe popular titles of the individual pieces. Also on this disc are two of Tchaikovskys finalworks. Both were published
posthumously but they belong to widely separate periods in
the composers career. The Storm was originally composed in
1864 during Tchaikovskys student days whilst the Voyevode
was composed in 1891 at the very end of his life. This
recording is widely considered the definative performance of
these works and is recommended in the TAS list. The front
laminated sleeve shows some age yellowing around the
edges but with all text legible. The vinyl is near mint
