Set of five albums by Mort Sahl, vinyl 1958-74 Verve Good to VG ALL SIGNED
This is a set of five albums from the legendary Mort Sahl, who was the first comedian on the cover of Time magazine and the first to release albums of comic monologues. His style of ad-lib social commentary does not contain any pre-written bits like many comics, but his frank comments on current society paved the way for many of the political comedians who followed, such as Lenny Bruce, Dick Gregory, George Carlin and Lewis Black. Many others like Johnathan Winters, Woody Allen and even Richard Pryor also cite him as an influence. All the albums in this set were signed at Sahl’s 2007 performance at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Los Angeles.
The first album here is Sahl’s breakthrough album, The Future Lies Ahead from 1958. Technically it is Mort’s second album, but the earlier work was released after the success of this one. Future Lies Ahead is considered by most to be the first modern comedy album. This copy’s cover is in very good condition, considering it is over 60 years old there is very little wear and the edges are largely intact., but there is a small owner’s mark on the back. The vinyl is in very good condition with no scratches or scuffs, but as always with vinyl of this age, some record noise is inevitable.

The second album here is 1960: Look Forward in Anger from 1959 which features mostly barbs aimed at the Eisenhower Administration. This copy’s cover is in very good condition, considering it is over 60 years old there is very little wear and the edges are largely intact. The vinyl is in very good condition with no scratches or scuffs, but as always with vinyl of this age, some record noise is inevitable.

The third album here is Mort Sahl at the Hungry I, his third album, from 1960 which features mostly barbs aimed at the Eisenhower Administration. This copy’s cover is in good condition, considering it is over 60 years old, there is a small amount of wear and the edges are largely intact. There is some masking tape residue and an owner’s mark on the back. The vinyl is in very good condition with no scratches or scuffs, but as always with vinyl of this age, some record noise is inevitable.

The fourth album here is The New Frontier, Sahl’s sixth album, from 1961 which features his first comments on the Kennedy Administration, which lost him a lot of friends there. This copy’s cover is in very good condition and the edges are all intact. The vinyl is in good condition with a couple scuffs scuffs, but still plays well.

The fifth album here is Sing a Song of Watergate, Sahl’s sixth album, from 1973
, which features his observations on the Watergate scandal. This copy’s cover is in very good condition with minimal wear and the edges are all intact, but it does have a catalogue sticker and an owner’s mark on the front. The vinyl is in very good condition with no scratches or scuffs, but still plays well.
