Set of five albums by the Fugs, 1965-69 vinyl  Various labels Good to Very Good
The early days of the Hippies, there were several rock groups that combined music with humor and social commentary. The most famous of these groups were The Mothers and Country Joe and the Fish, but the first group like this was The Fugs, who hailed from New York and was begun by two beat poets, Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg who were friends of Alan Ginsburg, William S. Burroughs, Abbie Hoffman and Paul Krassner, among many others on the New York scene. Starting with their first record in 1965, they pursued a rather anarchic music style, but still managed many memorable cuts. This is a collection of five of their 1960s releases.
The first album here is The Fugs First Album, which is an ESP-Disk re-issue of their very first 1965 release. It contains several great cuts like the nihilistic “Nothing,” and “I Couldn’t Get High,” In addition to a cover of The Holy Modal Rounders song, “Boobs a Lot.” This copy’s cover is in very good and shows very little wear because it is still in the (opened) shrink-wrap. Likewise, the vinyl is in very good condition with no scuffs or scratches and plays well.

The second album here is The Fugs from 1966, also on the ESP-Disk label. This continues their irreverent tradition with songs like Kill For Peace, and The Virgin Forest. This copy’s cover shows moderate wear with some minor stains on the back, but the edges are all intact and overall is in good condition. The vinyl is also in good condition with no scuffs or scratches and plays well.

The third album here is Tenderness Junction from 1968 on the Reprise label. This album features much better production than the earlier releases and has great songs like Turn On Tune In Drop Out, Wet Dream and there’s even some on-the-scene audio of a protest at the Pentagon from 1967. This copy’s cover is in very good condition and shows very little wear. The vinyl is also in very good condition with no scuffs or scratches and plays well.

The fourth album here is It Crawled into My Hand Honest! also from 1968 and is perhaps their best work. It contains great tracks like Wide Wide River, The Marijuana Chant and Johnny Pissoff Meets the Red Angel. Side One is single songs, but Side Two is not banded and tracks through as a single work more like the Firesign Theatre. This copy’s cover shows significant wear on the edges, but no edge is broken out. There is a catalogue sticker on the front and an owner’s mark on the front. The vinyl has survived well, especially considering it’s over 50 years old.

The fifth album here is Golden Filth, a live recording from 1968, released in 1970 on the Reprise label. It features some songs from their first two albums. This copy’s cover is in very good condition and shows minimal wear. Likewise, the vinyl has been cared for and is in excellent condition with no scuffs or scratches and plays well.
