Released in 1966 on Impact Records, Happiness Is The Shades of Blue is the only studio album by the Detroit area vocal group, The Shades of Blue. Hailing from Livonia, Michigan, the group is a prime example of blue-eyed soul, delivering a sound so authentic to the Motown era that many listeners initially assumed they were a Black vocal group. The album is anchored by their massive hit single Oh How Happy, which was written by the legendary Edwin Starr and reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable tracks include Lonely Summer and Happiness, both of which also showcased the group's smooth harmonies and finger-popping rhythms. Historically, this record is a significant piece of Northern Soul history and remains highly collectible as the sole full-length release from the Impact label.
