Description

You are looking at an extremely rare Blue Note LP of the Freddie Redd Quintet, entitled Shades of Redd.  The personnel on this album is as follows:  Jackie McLean, alto sax; Tina Brooks, tenor sax; Freddie Redd, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; and Louis Hayes, drums.  The record is the original deep groove release--the address on the label reads 47 West 63rd NYC, there are the RVG and "ear" inscriptions on both sides, as well as a number on each (BN LP 4045-A and BN LP 4045-B respectively), and both sides of the label have the concentric groove unique to original Blue Note pressings.  The songs on the album are:  Thespian, Blues-Blues-Blues, Shadows, Melanie, Swift, Just a Ballad for my Baby, and Ole (all composed by Redd).  The jacket is in tact--there are no seam splits, but there is a little wear, especially on the corners.  There is also a small stamp on the back of the jacket that reads "N.R." (see picture)--I'm assuming this was done before the record was purchased.  The record itself is in very good shape (I'm not experienced at grading lps, but from what I've seen I would call this record VG+).  There are some light marks/scratches on the surface, but it generally looks fine.  I played it through completely once in order to thoroughly check the condition and there were no major flaws in the sound, just some light noise as one would expect (there were no big pops or cracks and no skips whatsoever).  The record was purchased by a family member when it was released and it hadn't been played in decades--it still has the original paper sleeve as can be seen in the pictures (however, I recently placed the LP in a poly-lined sleeve to protect it--the winning bidder will receive both).  I greatly prefer paypal, but will accept money orders and checks.  Shipping is $5 within the U.S. for priority mail with delivery confirmation.  I will package the record very securely, but insurance is highly recommended (I will let the winning bidder know the cost of insurance after the auction ends).  Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions.  Also, be sure to take a look at my other auctions--I will be listing several classical cds and box sets in the coming days.  Thanks and good luck!
