Sheffield Labs II & III (2)Direct-to-Disc LPs Lincoln Mayorga & Distinguished Colleagues Mint Vinyl!!
1) II (Sheffield S10) = Lincoln Mayorga & Distinguished Colleagues (including Jim Keltner). Sheffield S10 Is a mix of classical and popular tunes. It’s a classic audio demo album from the 70’s.
2) III (LAB-1) = Lincoln Mayorga & Distinguished Colleagues (including Jim Keltner). Sheffield LAB-1 is also a mix of classical and popular tunes. It’s yet another classic audio demo album from the 70’s. This was nominated for a Grammy in Engineering Excellence.
These were recorded direct-to-disc using Doug Sax’s cutting lathe. The same one that Chad Kassem of Acoustic Sounds just purchased and restored. These are direct-to-disc audiophile recordings that are as close to new as you can get. If you are not familiar with Sheffield Labs or direct to disc recordings, Google them up, it’s an interesting story and a true part of the history of our hobby/obsession.
I confess, I was an 80’s audiophile and I worked in the business, on the retail end. Yup, I was that 20-something audio geek. I collected anything that HP and the Absolute Sound or Stereophile anointed, rarely played them and cared for them with an insane level of passion. I still love audio and LPs as much as ever, but the need to amass and care for a huge amount of LPs is just not there anymore. Especially the stuff I NEVER PLAY! There’s so much great new vinyl coming out these days, the dead wood has to go… I bought these because of the reviews and my index cards in the sleeves indicate that I played the II 11 times and LAB-1’s card has no dates on it, but I know I played it at least a couple times. The LPs are mint, you cannot see or hear that they are not new.
The sleeves have always been stored properly in protective outer sleeves, in moderate temperatures & humidity and never exposed to direct sunlight. There are no splits or cracks on the splines or split seams. Both have few scuffs on them but I’ve seen worse still in the plastic…
