Original UK pressing of Shelly Manne & His Men – At the Black Hawk, Volume 1, issued in the UK by Contemporary Records through Vogue (catalog SCA 5015). Recorded live in 1959 at San Francisco’s legendary Black Hawk club, this album documents one of the most important small-group jazz residencies of the era.
The lineup features Shelly Manne (drums), Joe Gordon (trumpet), Richie Kamuca (tenor sax), Victor Feldman (piano), and Monty Budwig (bass). The performance captures the relaxed intensity, interaction, and extended improvisation that made the Black Hawk recordings a cornerstone of West Coast jazz.
