Here’s some very RARE FOLK for you!
It’s Shirley Collins, with sister Dolly Collins (and a contingent from The Incredible String Band) on an original 1968 LP album “The Power Of The True Love Knot” on Polydor 583 025.
As far as I can see, this is the original late 1960’s issue, in better than VG++ condition (see below).
The sleeve is very clean and intact, but has a small crease and a couple of very slight lamination liftings, along the spine. These are clearly visible in the photographs.
I think these slight defects are acceptable, and are to be expected in a 50+ year old record.
I’d rate the sleeve as a strong VG+ using the “Record Collector” magazine guidelines.
The disc is clean and plays very well indeed, with hardly the slightest audible tick or click. I have play checked it (with an SME arm and a good Shure cartridge) on both sides all the way through, and it reproduces remarkably well and sounds beautiful.
Please note.. Joe Boyd’s original 1967/8 stereo production is a bit iffy, and never was stratospherically Hi Fi in the first place!
However, it is what it is.. and what it is, is utterly delightful.
The labels have a few light spindle-marks, which are not bothersome, and a couple of curious tiny pale patches.
I think they could be the remains of old damp spots, or more likely were defects on the original label when pressed.
I have illustrated these tiny defects in the photographs.
I would happily rate the disc as a good strong VG++ or maybe better, and would describe everything as very, very collectable, as well as important and beautiful.
You will get the disc in a new heavy-duty plastic cover with a deluxe new “onion-skin poly” and paper inner sleeve.
It will be well packed and insured.
