Description
Camilla Wicks (Violin) with Sixten Ehrling conducting the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra in Sibelius Concert in D Minor for Violin and Orchestra Op 47.
Capitol CTL 7026 Mono recording (No Stereo). This is a very rare first pressing made in England. Matrix / Stampers P8175-Y-1B and CA P 8175 - Z - 1A
Rare and highly collectible particularly in this condition. According to International Record Review “among records of violin concertos, few are more legendary than Camilla Wicks's 1952 Sibelius recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with Sixten Ehrling conducting the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra”. It has become one of the most prized classical recordings (for other reviews see http://www.camillawicks.com/Reviews.html) . Sublime listening.
RECORD
Heavyweight vinyl with a clear sheen and only limited very light hairline / slight scuffing.
Plays superbly. No jumps, sticking or persistent clicks. Inevitable slight background random crackle but hardly noticeable and it certainly does not distract from the beautiful rich orchestral sound and the crystal clear violin. My grading is EX+
LABELS
Plum/gold label with no groove.
No markings and in near perfect condition. MINT-.
SLEEVE
The jacket is fully intact and all text clearly legible There are no markings other than a code in biro in the top right hand corner of the rear sleeve and three small brownish stains on the front (see photos). However, while there are no rips or tears to the front or rear, the edges are frayed with a 3” tear along the bottom edge (at the opening end) and a small tear along the centre of the spine. I rate it VG
I use a slight variant on RC gradings (see below) but tend to grade conservatively because, firstly, as a collector myself, I know how frustrating it is to receive ‘over-graded’ items and, secondly, I am having a clearout over the coming months (years?) and wish to maintain and develop a good reputation. I never grade a used record as Mint as that is a contradiction in terms. All of my records have been play tested.
All records have been cleaned with a Moth machine.
I will endeavour to post all items within 2 working days of Paypal payment (or cheque clearing).
While I describe as honestly and accurately as I can, a refund is guaranteed if you are not satisfied with the items as described. This has not been necessary to date and my feedback has been 100% positive.
Thanks for looking.
Record Collector Grading System:
M = Mint: Never been played or item still sealed. Cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster (ie contents) are in perfect condition.
Ex = Excellent: Shows some signs of being played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. Cover and contents might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VG = Very Good: Obviously been played many times but no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on cover or contents, without any major defects.
Gd = Good: Sound quality has noticably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion. Mild scratches. Cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration etc.
Fair: Still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise - it may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor: Will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. Cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
I also use Plus (+) or Minus (-) to allow for items that fall between the above grades.price rating
