Sidney Bechet   "Olympia 1,000,000e disque"

This is an original French vinyl pressing from 1955 on  Vogue  LDM 30.014 and LDM 30.015.    It is a two record box set.     This box set is numbered ( No. 001003 ) and autographed inside the front cover by Sidney Bechet, Claude Luter and Andre Reweliotty in blue pen.       This box set was only pressed in France.

The box set is hinged on the left and it opens right to left.     The records are held in cardboard pockets and there are metal rivets holding these to the inner spine.    There is a black and white photo inside the box, attached to the front of the pockets (taken from the back of the stage while he is playing live).    Each cardboard pocket has wax paper inner sleeves.      On the inside left of the box are complete credits in French.    It has an article in French, record numbers, track listings, band leaders and band members and the small box with the number and the autographs.     On the inside of the back cover are highlights of press articles about the show.      The front of the box has a black and white photo of Sidney accepting a gold record award.    The gold lettering on the front of the box is raised.     The back of the box is textured and all black.     The left spine has the titles in gold lettering.   The records are pressed on thick rigid vinyl.

The music was recorded live in Paris, France on October 19th, 1955 at the Olympia.   Sidney Bechet introduces each song.     There is very enthusiastic cheering before the start and after each song.       The quality of this live recording is excellent !!!       He plays clarinet with two backing bands.       He plays his big hits "Wild Cat Blues" and "Kansas City Man Blues", and many other famous hits of the day.    Sidney was an American jazz clarinetist and one of the first important soloists in jazz.   He lived in France from 1950 until his death in 1959.

The songs are : Blues In The Air, Wild Cat Blues, Everybody Loves My Baby, Wild Cat Rag, I Don't Know Where I'm Going, Viper Mad, High Society, Halle Hallelujah, Kansas City Man Blues, Les Oignons, Old Fashioned Love, Charleston, Swanee River, Southern Sunset, Ol' Man River, Dans Les Rues D'Antibes, Panama Rag, When The Saints Go Marching In, and Royal Garden Blues.    

Overall Condition is : Box is VG /  Records are VG+ &  M-

The box cover is VG.    There are no breaks in the sides or top and bottom of the box.     There is front cover wear, that look like tiny little white dots.      There is lots of corner wear on the top left corner and minor corner wear on the other three corners.    On the top left seam there is 3/4 inch of missing paper.    On the left seam there are two tiny tears on the bottom end.     On record one the vinyl looks VG+ and it plays VG+.     There are no scratches or scuffs, just light paper marks from going in and out of the wax paper sleeves.      One record two the vinyl looks near mint and it plays near mint.     There are no scratches or scuffs and just a hint of paper marks.     The labels of both records are clean with no spindle marks.    There are wrinkles and folds and tiny tears on the wax paper inner sleeves.  

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY HEAVY BOX SET.    With my excellent packaging it will weigh 3 pounds, 2 ounces when ready to ship.      A US winner can get it by Media mail at a low cost.    A US winner can get it by Priority at a reasonable cost.     Any overseas winner will have to pay for First Class Mail International and it will be VERY expensive.

I started collecting records in 1966.     I started selling in Goldmine in 1985.      I now sell records at all Northwest record conventions : Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Eugene, Grants Pass, and Canby.       And at Crossroads Music in Portland, Oregon.     My records are from a no smoking and no pets home.  

Packaging :

I take great care on every package and I do each one personally.     I will package this record between two pieces of over-sized hand cut cardboard.     Each piece is 1/2 inch thick, triple strength industrial cardboard.       Then I will have thick side walls that will make it un-crushable.   The package will be marked in red : "Fragile Record" on both sides. 

Postage :  Weight : 3 pounds, 2 ounces

You have to pay for the postage.     I pre-weigh every record, so that you pay the exact amount the post office charges.   There are no handling charges.     This record will weigh 50 ounces ( 3 pounds, 2 ounces ) when ready to ship.   US bidders can figure out your own postage costs for US Priority or Media Mail.    All US winners will get shipping through Paypal and an automatic email with the tracking number.      Overseas bidders must use First Class Mail International.    You will get an automatic email with the customs/tracking number.     I will send your record as soon as you pay ( same day if before 2 PM and next day if after 2 PM : Monday thru Saturday)      I will combine shipping if you win more than one record.      If you do win more than one record, please wait for me to send you an invoice for all of your records in one package.
