ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from Spanish Odeon (MOAL 116, thick Spanish flat-rim pressing, red/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features pianist Bella Siki’s magnificent presentation of Chopin’s 4 Scherzi (No. 1 in B minor Op. 20, No. 2 in B-flat minor Op. 31, No. 3 in C-sharp minor Op. 39, and No. 4 in E Major Op. 54), all recorded in London during 18/19 May 1953.
Bela Siki whose recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc. His playing is highly sculpted, resonant, and with a beautiful tone.
Incidentally, there are superb notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in Spanish only, by Michel Briguet, who was a splendid pianist in his own right.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor wear at corners and at the spine, as well as faint ringwear on the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a very good collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is quite fine. However, those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
