Description

An original 1st press of Bookends on the UK CBS label from '68. Matrix A4/B1. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J Day cover with a stereo sticker on the rear and a pinched spine. These 'stereo' stickers were used as the record companies switched from mono to stereo in '67&'68 before 'stereo specific' covers had been designed and printed. Also included is the original 'patents applied for' generic white inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) A beautiful slab of vinyl which has only seen light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks either side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. And you really have to insist on the absolute best copy you can find otherwise interference is just going to get in the way of the listening experience. All we could detect were a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments. It really plays as sweet as any copy I've auditioned. Rest assured this copy will deliver the goods when it comes to this sixties folk classic.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Wow, not bad for '68! Lovely shiny front cover exhibiting nothing more than a couple of minor creases. The rear is quite frankly astonishing...absolutely free from ageing and perfectly white..don't know how that was managed..but hats off too whoever was responsible! Edge wear is super-light and the openings are still sharp. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A truly impressive example.
Inner (Ex) Lightest of ageing. No splits or markings.
