Hello
This is a set of 4 Decca 78s. Each vinyl has one song on each side - see photos for track listing. The cover says 1947/printed in USA. Vinyl pressed in NY per markings on each label.
There are a few scuff marks on some of the records, some real light scratches. Otherwise, they are shiny, pretty thick vinyl (Decca - the unbreakable record!) and considering these are circa 1947, they look pretty good. Unfortunately my record player does not have a 78 adapter so I cannot play test this so it is strictly visually graded. I’m not an expert at grading either way so please keep that in mind. That said, I do own a lot of other modern vinyl and some are in far worse condition, but play without much interference.
I was able to catch a few of the scuffs (the ones that look the worst) with the camera so please check out the photos.
There is edge-wear on the outside of the cover, otherwise it looks great.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe was nominated to be in the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame this year. PBS once called her “the godmother of Rock’n’Roll”. She has long gone without due credit for her contribution to very early R’n’R, blues, gospel, etc. - now she has finally been recognized.
This is a rare compilation of 8 of her very early songs. According to Discogs these songs were recorded around 1944, however the only date I saw on the actual cover was 1947.
