This excellent LP from Melodiya (C10-06829-30, Russian pressing, red label, stereo) features legendary violinist Julian Sitkovetsky in mesmerizing performances of Bach's Sonata for Solo Violin No. 2 in D minor BWV 1004, with a truly exalted account of the Chaconne, and Ysaye's Sonata for Solo Violin No. 6 in E Major Op. 27 No. 6

The true recording dates for these performances are difficult to determine – most sources list 1954 or 1955, though a few cite 1957 and Melodiya state these to be stereo recordings, and they do sound as such, though mono seems more likely.
This was Record 2 in the label's 5-LP set devoted to Sitkovetsky's artistry. The reverse side of the jacket carries title and track listings in English and Russian.
These are remarkable performances by any measure and all those who admire the art of the violin will find much to admire here – the sound is first rate.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a small bend to the upper-right corner, light edgewear and general aging. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
