Description

Emory Cook was proud of his technical advances in recording, and there are those who say any kind of noise would have done for him so long as it showed how well he could record it.  Be that as it might, his idiosyncratic production system is especially famous for field recordings of local bands in the Caribbean and the American South, AND for very loud sounds.  His Cook 1042, Brute Force Steel Bands, combines the two, while his Sampler album includes singer Lizzie Miles, locomotive sounds, a calliope, a mosque organ, and all manner of amazing stuff.  The vinyl on this disc fades to an almost transparent blue at the edges.  We also have Cook 1163 Lizzy (sic) Miles: Hot Songs my Mother Taught Me (the biography on the back of this jacket has nothing in common with the Lizzie Miles biography online), Cook XX 2 Calypso Jazz, featuring the Mighty Sparrow and Lord Melody, Cook 1018, in which the stars of Brute Force Steel Bands appear in Music to Awaken the Ballroom beast, a ten-incher featuring the U.S. Naval Aviation Cadet Choir from Pensacola, Florida singing an assortment which includes Sea Chanties (sic), Begin the Beguine, Beautiful Savior, and Mighty navy Wings.   Purchaser pays $4 no frills shipping and handling within US, more for international or insurance
