Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please “bear” that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here is what we all love about early Ska records.
It’s a simple but very catchy song, performed by a raggle-taggle bunch with a VERY loud bass player and an excellent drummer who they’ve locked in a cupboard.
The recording technique is ..er. rudimentary.
I’d be amazed if they’re using more than two or three microphones.
It sounds like a very energetic first take and, of course, it’s all the better for that.
It is totally wonderful.
What is it?
It’s The Rulers, with “Well Covered” and “Help Time” on a 45 RPM Single with a four prong centre, on the always interesting RIO record label.
It was originally pressed in the UK in 1967.
The number is R135.
This is the later Orange And Blue label design, and the record is “produced” by J. J. Johnson.
It’s got very few light scuffs from sleeveless storage, but it’s quite clean and plays very well. Pressing of the “mono” button will remove most complications.
Everything sounds wonderful.
There is a name and a letter A written on the label, but you don’t play the label do you?
Using the “Record Collector” magazine’s yardstick, I reckon it’s easily a VG or maybe better but it plays much better than it looks.
Bid now, before Jupiter Collides With Mars.
I am not a dealer.
I am just a very old bloke thinning out his lifetime collection of STUFF before the floor collapses (or I do).
I'm selling most of this stuff for much less
than I paid for it.
What a great business plan (I don't think)!
I am certainly NOT INTERESTED IN PROFIT..
..and indeed, seldom make any!
What little profit I do make goes to help
a very splendid Wildlife Rescue Charity.
The item in the photograph is the item you will get.
I have described everything to the best of my ability, and it looks in excellent condition to me.
Please check the photographs to decide for yourself.
NO OVERSEAS bidders please.
And NO OVERSEAS bidders using UK addresses please.
I am a simple sort, and I want my buyers to be happy. If there is any kind of problem, I like to sort it out personally. I can’t do this if you’re thousands of miles away!
