Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please "bear"🐻 that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have some prime Prince Buster for you.
It's an original issue, number 343 on the prestigious Blue Beat label, from 1966.
The toons are "Prince Of Peace" which is one of Buster's pre-rap raps with another voice in there with him, as well as lots of mouth noises.
It's all a bit stream-of-consciousness so I'm not sure, but I think it might be about Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali.
Buster mentioned him a few times on record, so he must've been a fan.
The other side is "Don't Throw Stones" which is in a minor key, and is heavily "inspired" by "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" a tin-pan-alley song more usually associated with Doris Day.
The story of the song is quite interesting.
It seems that a Hawaiian islander stole the King's ceremonial chair, and hid it in his little grass shack on the beach at Kealakekua.
He was discovered, and sent to jail.
So he learned that People In Grass Houses Shouldn't Stow Thrones.
There's nothing like a good joke.. and that was nothing like a...
Conditionwise, the record is in good playable condition, but it doesn't look perfect. "Throw Stones" has a visible storage mark across the surface, which is light enough to not bother the ear'ole when the "mono" button is pressed.
There's a very much lighter mark on the other side, which again causes no probs if you press the "mono" button.
You HAVE got a "mono" button, haven't you? They are indispensible for used-record collectors, and are cheap to buy and/or easy to make.
Let's call the record a VG/VG+ but sounding LOTS better than that. You could happily DJ with this with no problems.
