Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please "bear"🐻 that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have a fine double-sider. It's TWO STUDIO ONE RECORDINGS by The Itals, backed by The Soul Brothers (i.e. the STUDIO ONE house band).
It dates from 1967 and the titles are "New Loving" and "I Told You Little Girl", both written by Norman Douglas Bucknor who was a sound engineer at Studio One back in the day.
"New Loving" has a slightly crackly start for a groove or three, but soon settles in to a delicious ska that will fill any dance-floor with gyrating dads. Curiously, the percussion is a bit Jim Reeves in the mix (distant drums) but none the worse for that. "I Told You Little Girl" is a similar good danceable outing, although the drums are allowed back out of the studio cupboard this time.
Condition-wise, I'd rate the vinyl as being more or less VG+, with light visible marks that do not affect the sound (see notes in red above). The label is not the usual shiny Giant type. It seems to be an EARLIER TYPE printed on matt paper, and is OK but a bit dull. "E McKee" has written his name on both sides, but I am sure you could remove this with an eraser.
Because some people feel that this is important, I must state that there are THREE PRONGS on the push out centre.
Apparently this is a crucial detail, if only to prong fans.
