It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have a record that isn’t trouser-rippingly rare, but is very collectable and great fun.
It is “Last Night” (Yup.. the same tune that was done by the Mar Keys, the Stax house-band) backed with “Jamaica Ska”. The performers are Byron Lee And The Dragonaires, and it’s on Kentone (no number on label) and is (I think) an early Jamaican “Federal” pressing from approx 1964.
It is in (see above red bit) very useful playable condition, but has some hairline marks from being stored in a box with other sleeveless records. The marks are heavier on the “Last Night” side and “Sonny” or it might be “Sam” Boyre(?) has written his name on the label twice (why?) in light biro.
It reproduces loudly and well and will be a fantastic floor-filler at any skinhead’s funeral/wedding/gender-reveal party.
Let’s call it a very strong VG edging up towards VG+, though sounding much better.
Buy now before vendor sees the error of his ways.
