This beautiful audiophile LP – a still-sealed copy – from Reference Recordings (RM-1004, US pressing, AAA stereo) features a “Numbered Collector’s Edition”* of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and the Minnesota Orchestra’s gorgeous and exquisite accounts of Ravel’s Ma Mère l’Oye (complete ballet) and Valses nobles et sentimentales.
*Note: This copy carries the number 01818.
Both works were atmospherically recorded at Orchestra Hall, Minnesota, in November 1974 by Elite Recordings (Joanna Nikrenz and Marc J. Aubort). The album’s striking graphic was executed by Pope Graphic Arts Center, Berkeley, California.
These performances are as fine as any ever set down and are well within the Monteux and Munch class. Moreover, they are better recorded, allowing one to hear Ravel’s orchestration anew – wonderfully evocative and richly colorful.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is very slight bumping at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – an outstanding collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
