Well-regarded in the Midwest Gospel world, this Skylark Gospel Singers record is exceptionally rare. Side A uses call and response from the preacher to the chorus and the band of guitar / drums punctuate the hymn like they are free jazz improvising. It sounds amazing—and really not like anything I’ve heard before. You can tell they are in a room coming together on this song. Side B is a foot-stomper with the drums, bass and guitar. This is a bit more traditional call and response Gospel Soul track with a great hook.
Condition:
VG- Clean record showing some handling wear and some tics / background noise, moreso on the beginning of each track – SEE PICS and LISTEN to CLIP below. Side A has some repeating tics on the intro, Side B has a couple indented pimples . You’ll hear a couple recording artifacts on this side—which is the recording, not the record.
