My other Slim Harpo Blue Horizon offering ending soon 'Trigger Finger' shows him on the front cover as alert and vibrant. But our hero died at only 46 years of age from a heart attack probably compounded by the narcotics found in his system and this particular album cover for 'He Knew The Blues' shows him pretty wasted. A great loss to the Blues nonetheless.
So, yet another of my Blue Horizon LP's up for sale and there are still more to come! This is a very nice example of the original 1970 Made In England / UK Blue Horizon LP 7-63854 in stereo by the great Slim Harpo.
The cover is of the BH hard shiny card type, non-laminated and prone to rub wear over the years (all my plain BH covers are the same to varying degrees) and hence there is edgewear, ringwear and creasing in evidence. But there are no seam splits, rips, tears or writing and the mouth is clean and the corners are fairly decent as shown. Once more it's an honest solid example and condition wise I rate it 8/10.
For the record itself the machine etched matrix numbers are S63854-A1/B1. The labels are clean and the tight spindle holes show evidence of a handful of plays only each side as witnessed by the minor spindle tracking.
The vinyl has a nice weight to it and up at the window the flat and shiny surfaces look near minty. If you were inspecting it in a shop or record fair you would say the same. But the acid test is under the all knowing and unforgiving table light which can either elate, satisfy or depress as there is no hiding place! I see some paper scuffs which is expected seeing the plastic has lived in its' inner sleeve for the past 47 years and with handling and use in between. And via some further angling I see a few short and light marks but by necessity I'm being very critical of course. Nevertheless, the upshot is I'd rate the vinyl 8/10 for condition.
As for the paper sleeve it's the original and intact CBS advertising one with a plain inner lining. As such I'll include but actually send the vinyl in a poly lined sleeve and outside the cover to avoid 'knifing' the latter; also I'll include a non-bendable liner in the packaging.
