Sly and the Family Stone was an American band from San Francisco. Active from 1966 to 1983, it was pivotal in the development of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music. Its core line-up was led by singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, and included Stone's brother and singer/guitarist Freddie Stone, sister and singer/keyboardist Rose Stone, trumpeter Cynthia Robinson, drummer Greg Errico, saxophonist Jerry Martini, and bassist Larry Graham.
There's a Riot Goin' On (sometimes referred to as Riot) is their fifth studio album. It was recorded from 1970 to 1971 at Record Plant Studios in Sausalito, California and released later that year by Epic Records.
It sounds like no other funk you've heard before. The sound, style and subject matter are so different to anything that came before. Is this, dare is say, post-funk? Excessive over-dubbing gives the album an ultra dense feel, warm like Sly’s bed. The words are often incomprehensible but that don’t matter anymore. Sly creates a feeling. It’s all about the feeling.
This is the orginal 1971 US Epic release with gatefold sleeve and the printed lyric sheet. It also comes with it's original Epic Undercover record sleeve.

This record has been kept in storage in a smoke free household. It is from a large record collection, not a DJ collection, this record has never been DJed and is in good condition.
On Side 1, there is a light crackle before the first track. Halfway through the 2nd track, 'Just Like A Baby' there is a small crackle. Between tracks 2 and 3, there are two light crackles. Right after the last track has finished, there are two light crackles.
Flip it over to Side 2, there are a few crackles before the 1st track. Then again there are a few small crackles between the tracks 1 and 2. During the 2nd track, '(You Caught Me) Smilin' there are a few wee crackles. With the 3rd track, 'Time' there are several little crackles through out. Also there are two small pops, one about 15 seconds in then another wee one pop 24 seconds before the end of the track. Then with the 4th track, 'Space Cowboy', there are a few small crackles at the start of the track. Finally there are occasional small crackles during the 6th track, 'Thank You For Talking To Me Africa'.
The record sleeve shows some slight foxing from age and being in storage. Two corners of the gatefold record sleeve show wear (see pictures).
