Description
Up for sale is a super rare 1 of 1500 original pressing of the first release ever from Smashing Pumpkins. This is a 45 RPM 7" single released on Limited Potential records bought at Atomic Records in Milwaukee, WI not long after their second show in Milwaukee. I am the original owner and I can vouch that this has been played only a handful of times over the years. When it was released I didn't have a record player and I was all about my walkman/cassettes (this was a vinyl only release on a small label) so I recorded it on tape and put the record away in storage. It surfaced many years later, was played once again briefly, then put back into storage. After several years past this seemed to be missing and was thought to be lost/accidentally thrown out by confused relatives who tend to throw useful things out but it later thankfully resurfaced is a box of records in the basement. Grade wise I would say this is a VG+ at least. The outer generic(and easily replaceable) clear plastic sleeve has a few minor indentations/ring wear visible when held up to the light. The inner paper sleeve with the graphics is in incredible condition with no obvious signs of wear. The record itself shows some minor signs of handling but has no pronounced scratches or anything. After being in a basement for many years it did sound more crackly than expected when I first dropped the needle but then those marshal stacks kick in and it sounds amazing. Something about a rarely played analog record recorded pre-digital sounds so vivid and alive. The record captures a stellar performance in the studio from a young, hungry band with something to prove and it's definitely a different version than the one that appeared on the classic Gish album. The B side "Not worth asking" is really cool too and very different than a lot of their stuff. Anyway I hope this goes to someone who will really appreciate what a cool piece of music history this is.
