Description
Here is a genuine piece of unheard pop history: the original demo of “Soldier of Love (Lay Down Your Arms)” produced by songwriters Tony Moon and Buzz Cason during their time at Globe studio in Nashville. It's got a nice raw, punchy r&b arrangement with a distinctive (and unidentified) singer. Of course, Arthur Alexander was the first to release this tune, and the Beatles played it on air in July 1963, yielding the musical highlight of Live at the BBC. This 8” 45 rpm acetate disc is affixed with a Globe Studios label, and the printing on it suggests Cason and Moon hadn’t settled on a title just yet. It includes a lead sheet on Lowery Music Company stationary. As with most old acetates, it has some surface wear, but this one plays nicely. The audio linked below comes directly from the disc.
