Wagner - Das Rheingold

(Decca SXL 2101-3 UK 3 LP Box Set 1959)

This is an original UK ED1 Stereo 3 LP Box Set pressing. It has a black "leatherette" style hard card outer box which is hinged also. It has a laminated front picture panel. It has gold embossed lettering on the spine. All three records come with their original polythene-lined "FFSS" company inner sleeve.

It comes complete with its original 12" Picture/ Information Booklet. This has printers date on the back page. "A.W. 59-10". This means that this booklet was printed in October 1959. It also comes complete with the original Libretto. The libretto did not come with the box set but was available to purchase separately from reputable Classical retailers at the time. It cost 8/6 d. Therefore they are not that common.

The records are pressed on thick vinyl & have ED1 "wide band" Decca labels. These are grooved also. They all have the "Original Recordings By.." text on them. Side 1 & Side 6 are on the 1st LP, Side 2 & Side 5 are on the 2nd LP, and Side 3 & Side 4 are on the 3rd LP. They have 1st press ZAL-4260-2E, ZAL-4265-2E, ZAL-4261-2E, ZAL- 4264-2E, ZAL-4262-1E and ZAL-4263-1E matrix numbers.

I have some other rare UK Classical/ Opera LP's for sale too. So please see my other listings. Don't miss out!

Box: The front opening edge, of the front part of the box set, has a 1.5 cm seam split at the top & bottom. There is some light or mild rubbing wear to the corner edges. There is a 6 cm area of more moderate rubbing wear to the centre top edge of the back board. There is some mild to more moderate rippling to the "leatherette" on the back board, near the opening area only. The spine is very nice & clean. The lettering has not faded. VG- condition.

The Picture/ Information Booklet has some discolouration to the gold area on the front page. There is some mild to more moderate foxing on the title page. There is some light foxing on a few other pages. It is totally complete & there are no loose pages. It is in VG+ condition. The Libretto is totally complete & is in EX condition. There are no loose pages or tears. It has the fold-out music page of the inside of the back cover too.

Vinyl 1: Just some light or very mild sleeve rubs can be seen under a strong light. Very NEAR EX condition. I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays near excellent to excellent overall. There is some light or very light crackle in a few of the quieter places. The labels are in excellent+ condition and show next to no spindle wear.

The company inner sleeve is in Very Near Excellent condition. There is some light ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.

Vinyl 2: There is a light warp. It only notices when playing Side 2. It doesn't affect playback at all. Otherwise, just some light or very mild sleeve rubs can be seen under a strong light. Looks Very Near EX, but because of the light warp. VG++ condition. I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays near excellent to excellent overall. There is some light or very light crackle in a few of the quieter places. The labels are in near perfect condition and show next to no spindle wear.

The company inner sleeve is in Excellent condition. There is some very light ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.

Vinyl 3: There is a light to very mild warp. It mainly notices when playing Side 4. It doesn't affect playback at all. Otherwise, just some light or very mild sleeve rubs can be seen under a strong light. Looks Very Near EX, but because of the light to very mild  warp. VG+ condition. I have play tested this LP in its entirety & it plays near excellent to excellent overall. Insurance is already included in the stated P&P price for non UK bidders for this item.

    >>  Grading Information All grading is very strict & adheres to 'Record Collector' specifications. However, I have fine tuned them & they are explained below. All vinyl is examined closely under a strong light & play tested.

MINT Condition = As good as a copy you would buy from a shop, immaculate!

NEAR MINT Condition = Very nearly mint just slightly under, maybe a couple of very, very light paper sleeve scuffs that can only be seen under strong light. SOME WOULD CLASS THIS AS MINT. This disc has been played a couple of times at most. Cover is virtually perfect - very minimal wear only.

EX Condition = A clean & tidy copy that shows virtually no defects. Maybe one or two light needle scuffs or light sleeve removal marks that can only be seen under strong light. There will be no scratches. Play will be near perfect with no distortion. Cover will be very nice with maybe very minimal creasing, ringwear or edgewear.

NEAR EX Condition = You can tell this record has been played a few times but it has been well cared for. There will be minor surface marks only; that barely detract from the sound quality. Cover may have slight creasing or ringwear. A very serviceable copy that you will be pleased with.

VG Condition = A well played but serviceable copy. There will be a few marks on the vinyl, but they won't be nasty scratches, just relatively light needle scuffs and sleeve removal marks, they will be noticeable but won't detract from play too much. Cover will show signs of storage/ ageing, e.g., creasing, slight folding, spinewear, ringwear or sticker tears. The record will not be trashed!!

All records will be sent in high quality vinyl mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7". I use a cruciform box for larger orders (4-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.

I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).

I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...

Sorry, I only accept Paypal, or money sent in a registered letter from overseas buyers.

Please note that I cannot reimburse payments for any uninsured items lost in the post. Sorry!
