After the commercial breakthrough of the band’s iconic “Goo” album in 1990, the band returned to the studio in early 1992 with Butch Vig as producer. Vig had produced Nirvana’s “Nevermind” and as such, had opened the door for others to follow. As the documentary film title stated, 1991 was indeed the year punk broke and bands such as Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and Babes in Toyland enjoyed a degree of success that was unimaginable just a year or two earlier. The resulting double album “Dirty” (Sonic Youth’s 7th) was released by DGC in July of 1992.
I am offering for sale my original copy of “Dirty”, purchased in HMV in Dublin’s Grafton Street upon the album’s release. Unusually for a double, the sleeve is not a gatefold. Both records are housed inside two inner and one outer sleeve. The outer sleeve shows a little wear here and there with a couple of small creases and dings (see photos) but overall, is in excellent condition. I would grade it as VG+. The records are the star of the show here. They are in superb condition and having cleaned and played them earlier, I can tell you that they play like a dream. I would grade both records as Near Mint.
