An early pressing of this mono original. Details: the first pressing was issued with the blue on white labels, ours is an early pressing with the classic blue and silver label in its larger (earlier) 100mm format; "Bill Grauer Productions" to foot of label without the later "Inc."; the less pronounced deep groove (also appropriate for this period); the US and GB patent numbers stamped in the deadwax (also appropriate, only later did Fontana take over the UK pressings); "553 West 51st St." address to the sleeve (appropriate to this period). Deadwax: RLP-12-241-A [B] U.S. PAT#RE23.946 G.B. PAT#713.418. Catalogue number etched, patent numbers stamped.

A VG+ LP in a VG+ sleeve. Details: light swipe to the clean labels, light, light wear to the spindle hole. Each side has about a dozen hairlines and a few touches of needle, nothing deep. Playgraded throughout: on the A, light crackle at the start, very occasionally elsewhere, a few soft ticks across the side. Nothing more, nothing worse. On the B, light static/crackle at the start, a few very soft pops and ticks, light static, nothing else. Quite clean play with just the occasional reminder that someone owned and played it before it came into your possession. The current inner sleeve is a replacement Nagaoka anti-static. The VG+ outer sleeve has some ring shadow at both front and rear, while the rear also has "WII" penned to it. The corners are lightly (upper and lower left) to moderately (lower right) rubbed. There's a scratch with small loss through the label edge at the artist credit. Solid, no splits, actually fairly well preserved.

Some may recall the sale of this LP from a short while back. Indeed, this is the very copy which we believed to be done with. The buyer felt that we'd overgraded the LP at VG+, and so we accepted its return. We've now given it a second listening (end to end) and have found no cause to revise our grading, though we can see that a VG would not be an egregious undergrading. Perhaps we're too generous to these '50s jazz titles. In any case, I've complemented the grade and verbal description with sound files. Below you'll find about 30 seconds from each and every track. No editing has been done to the source and we've made a point of sampling the ill as readily as the good.
