Description
RTI Test Pressing from Classic Records pressed on 180g vinyl. So as you can see in the pictures, initially these albums were sealed. This copy for sale is in the jacket labeled Aug 15 1996 LSP 2712 A1/B1. There is also a second jacket labeled Sep 13 1996 LSP-2712 A1/B2. When I purchased this from the seller responsible for the Hobson Archive (see below) the pair were listed as A1/B1 and A2/B2. Sometimes Classic Records would press single albums on two pieces of vinyl, on single sided vinyl or at 45. Upon arrival I saw the issue with the jacket and discovered a test defect in the mislabeled sleeve. I checked this album out on discogs (https://www.discogs.com/release/12027257-Sonny-Rollins-And-Coleman-Hawkins-Sonny-Meets-Hawk). This discogs page confirms the track lengths and the visual inspection of both vinyls I have are in line with this release (The A side being a 5 minute track followed by a 9 minute track and then another 5 minute track. The B side times are in line with the track lengths as well). Finally the dead wax shows the correct etching on the A-side of LSP 2712-A BG and the B side is correct as well. The plan was to sell them as the pair I thought they were but once I saw what arrived there was no way I was going to be able to sell this album without getting to the bottom of what was going on.
This all having been said this listing is for ONLY the August 15 1996 copy of the album. A visual inspection does reveal some surface marks and the vinyl does need to be cleaned (I wasn't touching it beyond the pictures) however I saw nothing that should drive the grade below NM- (Classic Records always have surface marks, even their Zeppelin albums).
The MH 1 of 1 sticker on the back is relative to this pressing having been part of the Michael Hobson Archive, a collection amassed by the founder of Classic Records. These vinyl occasionally become available and are authenticated by the sticker on the rear of the jacket which Hobson has initialed
