Description
Sonny Rollins The Freedom Suite Riverside 12-258 mono original pressing LP with Max Roach and Oscar Pettiford. LP is in VG condition as it is a storage find, the cover has some wear around the edges and some age spotting. The cover also has some aged tape on the side. The rear of the cover is important for this reason: I always wondered why Sonny Rollins only recorded one LP on Riverside and the reason is that he cut this LP, The Freedom Suite and also penned a note (see the photos above) about the Negro struggles and the racist producers at Riverside got very upset and Orrin Keepnews quickly reissued the LP, calling it Shadow Waltz and the Negro statement was removed against Sonny's wishes and he got very upset and ended his contract with Riverside and left for Contemporary. This record has light hair marks on both sides so I will call the LP VG and the taped cover VG as well. Very historic LP with Max Roach and Oscar Pettiford and the title tune says it al, especially the tremendous Max Roach solo on this tune. See all the photos above, not a bad LP just was in storage for years and upon extraction, cover has some old tape on the side and some age spotting and the LP has some light hair like marks on either side. Very classic original pressing. VG LP, VG cover, sold as is. Item relisted due to yet another non paying overseas bidder, not sure why this happened.
