Description

Up for bid is an original deep groove mono pressing of Sonny Rollins Saxophone Colossus.  This was released on the Prestige label and is Prestige 7079.  Featured are the original yellow Prestige labels with the firework motif, featuring the 446 W. 50th ST, N.Y.C. address indicating the LP is microgroove.  Stamped in the dead wax on both sides is "RVG" indicating the mastering of legendary jazz icon Rudy Van Gelder.  Other musicians featured on this legendary recording include Tommy Flanagan on piano, Max Roach on drums, and Doug Watkins on bass.

The jacket is in VG condition.  There is a top seam split about two and a half inches from the mouth of the jacket.  The spine also shows heavy signs of wear.  There are two one inch splits in the spine and wear at the bottom of the spine.  As indicated in the pictures, there is writing on the back of the jacket.  The LP looks to be in VG condition, but actually plays more like VG+.  There are numerous stray marks on either side of the record that result in some crackling, but nothing that seems to overpower the recording.  (LP was play-tested on a quality table with a new stylus.)  This is certainly not a perfect copy, but is a rather nice copy of an extremely rare, original jazz LP.  Don't miss out.

Bid with confidence.  All items are securely and carefully packaged in cardboard record mailers with stiffeners to ensure safe arrival.  All records are shipped in sleeves outside of the jacket to ensure a safe journey.  Items are shipped promptly, typically the following business day from completed payment.  Thank you for considering this auction.
