Description
Sonny Stitt led a number of excellent record dates in 1959, especially at the end of the year when he produced three LPs for Verve over a span of three sessions with pianist Lou Levy, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Mel Lewis. Playing alto sax throughout this album, Stitt hardly sounds like a Charlie Parker clone, something that unfortunately was a frequent claim by tin-eared critics throughout a fair portion of his career. The music includes several potent originals, especially "Hymnal Blues" and the slow, powerful "Morning After Blues."
This title was mastered by Classic Records at Half Speed from the original source master tapes. An all-analog, tube amplification process was used at every step. Classic Records used a proprietary vinyl, 180 gram weight, that guaranteed virtually no surface noise and sonically superior dynamics.
This is long out of print and was made in a limited edition of 200 4 one-sided 180 grams of vinyl at 45 rpm. All four records and outer sleeves are in NM condition. I don't grade any open records in mint condition but these are virtually in the same condition as one would find when just opened. I bought this set exactly as presented here and probably only played a portion of one record.
Note U.S. Bidders: shipping is not $4.00! This records weighs 3.5 lbs. when double boxed. The album set will be double-boxed and shipped First Class USPS with delivery confirmation. I will not ship Media Mail.
