Originating from Los Angeles, Sound Barrier, known to some as one of the few primarily African-American metal bands, was formed in 1980. Their second album Speed of Light was released in early 1986, this time on Metal Blade Records.
On the whole, Sound Barrier's Speed of Light is an underrated power metal gem. At a time when most metal bands were trying to make their sound, image and lyrics darker and more extreme, Sound Barrier completely bucked that trend by creating an album with such positive energy. Unfortunately, this album was somehow overlooked despite its release on Metal Blade, and the band broke up a year later.
