This is a reluctant sale but alas I must part company with this, one of my favourite albums. This album is so good that if it wasn't for the previous release (Badmotorfinger) it could have had "Greatest Hits" written on the front cover.
Did the grunge era really have a better single than Black Hole Sun? How many bands had MTV hits with 7/8 time signatures ever such as The Day I Tried To Live and that's before you get to the first riff any learning guitarist plays after they learn to drop-D tune - the mighty groovemonster that is Spoonman.
This LP is almost 30 years old now and is very much Classic Rock. It's been tried by all and has withstood the test of time whilst some of its whiny peers have become considered more niche propositions (sorry Alice In Chains, it's the way it is) or less rewarding (Smashing Pumpkins... must one really endure Billy Corgans mewling just to find out what happens when shoegaze meets prog?).
Anyway, this is a bit of a rarity. The cover has shelf wear a-go-go in line with its age but not a split in sight and of course all the A&M promo stickers are still in place. The cover is actually pretty glossy aside of the shelf and corner wear (see images) so is actually still a really nice piece and besides, what matters is the vinyl and that is pretty much tip top. Looks clean in good light and sounds awesome with only a minimum of noise which for a hit packed 30 year old album is nothing short of a miracle.
Anyway, it's a treat and it's hard to find one of these promotional items without paying some seriously crazy money these days (Discogs and the like showing upwards of £300... pretty jaw dropping numbers) so I have set a low start.
Oh, and you'll notice that although worn, it is in fact the original cover art unlike the reissue which has some butchered looking nonsense on there for reasons inexplicable.
Anyway, I'm gutted to part with it and hope it goes to a good home. The pictures tell you everything else you need to know.
