Description
Here is an extremely rare item that's sure to please everyone, including historians and fans of Brian Wilson, Phil Spector, and Darlene Love. It's a recording of "Things are Changing" by The Blossoms. Quite a history behind this one: the song was originally written by Brian Wilson, who gave it to Phil Spector in the hopes that The Ronettes might record it (under the title "Don't Hurt My Little Sister"). Spector recorded a backing track, but decided later he didn't want to use it. In the meantime, Brian Wilson recorded his own version with the Beach Boys for the "Today!" album. In 1966, the Spector-recorded backing track was given to Jerry Riopelle who released it, with new lyrics and a new title ("Things are Changing"), as a promotional record for the government sponsored Equal Employment Opportunities Campaign. Only 4,000 copies were pressed and given to radio stations across the country. The Supremes and Jay & the Americans also recorded versions of this song for the Campaign. Darlene Love provides lead vocals on this, The Blossoms version, and it is widely believed that Brian Wilson plays piano. Though many continue to debate the credits, it is very likely they go something like this: Written by Brian Wilson and Phil Spector. Produced by Phil Spector, arranged by Jack Nitzsche. Vocals arranged by Jerry Riopelle. The catalogue number is EEOC T4LM-8172-1. Plays at 33 1/3 rpm. Same song on both sides.
Record is in weak VG condition, mostly because of the surface noise and the writing on the labels (there's also WRIU stamped on one side, which indicates that this particular copy was sent to WRIU in Kingston, Rhode Island). Vinyl has some scuffs, but it retains most of its gloss and shine. Sound comes through the surface noise very strong. Unfortunately, there is no picture sleeve.
