Description

Spirogyra- Bells, Boots and Shambles/ Brain-Metronome#1024 c.1973 Germany This album by the British group, Spirogyra, released in Germany in summer of 1973 is more or less a continuation of the same duo (Gaskin/Cockerham) with excellent accompanaiment of pretty much the same group (including Borill and Mattacks) with some great flute and cello work . Each song here is a gem, with very concise arrangements and execution. Unfortunately the the album would not see a non-European release and business being as it is, would not bode well for the future of this laid-back soft folk-rock project. More fronted by Barbara Gaskins' timeless vocals, the record is even less rocky than the others and in todays' perspective, probably only helped drive the band further into obscurity. I mean, just recently one of the LARGEST record chains here in America TOTALLy eliminated the Folk/Bluegrass section! If this record were released today, it would have to be in the "Country" section as would Joan Baez, Steeleye Span, Fairports and the Chieftans! It is the "narrowing" of the musical conciousness that has made bands such as this obsolete, surely not lack of creativity! The record and cover are both in excellent shape with very minimal wear! Please bid on this gem of British folk and thanks for looking!!
