STAN LEVEY - plays compositions of COOPER, HOLMAN, AND GUIFFRE 10" LP RECORD on BETHLEHEM RECORDS BCP 1017   This record would be rated Near Mint (see record grading below).Though side 2 has a tick on the second track for about 10 seconds or so. The cover is in excellent condition showing some shelf wear on the back.. more than the front.   Biography

Stan Levey, one of the early bop drummers, was greatly in demand in the jazz world of the 1950s. He played with Dizzy Gillespie for the first time in Philadelphia in 1942. Two years later, he moved to New York and worked with Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins (when his group included Thelonious Monk), and Ben Webster. He toured with Woody Herman in 1945 and was in the Gillespie-Parker Quintet (1945-1946). Levey proved to be a superior big band drummer during his stints with Charlie Ventura, Georgie Auld, and Freddie Slack, gaining his greatest recognition while with Stan Kenton's Orchestra (1952-1954). Settling in Los Angeles, Levey was with the Lighthouse All-Stars (1954-1958) and worked for the next decade as a studio musician. In 1973, he permanently retired from music to run a photography business. Stan Levey led three dates for Bethlehem (1954-1956) and one apiece for Liberty and Mode in 1957.
