Description
Up for auction is a certified crown jewel for audiophiles: an exceptional, true "Transitional" US First Pressing of Steely Dan's sonic masterpiece "Aja" (1977, ABC Records, AA-1006).
This is the exact copy jazz-rock purists fanatically hunt down, combining the coveted Columbia Santa Maria plant pedigree with the legendary "crossed-out B" matrix.
THE "AB" MATRIX HISTORY:
When Aja launched, ABC Records originally priced it at $7.98 (the "AB" prefix). Just weeks later, they raised the price to $8.98, shifting the catalog prefix to "AA". Rather than discarding perfectly good master metal parts, factory workers hand-scratched out the "B" and added an "A" directly onto the earliest day-one lacquer stampers. This variant guarantees you are listening to the unmatched, explosive dynamic range of the earliest initial cut.
DEADWAX & PRESSING DETAILS:
- Mastering Engineer: Definitive original master lacquer cut by Bernie Grundman (featuring the prized RE-3 matrix format).
- Pressing Plant: Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria (verified by the signature Santa Maria deadwax footprint and etched "S" markings).
- Runouts Side A (Hand-Etched): AA 1006 (RE-3) - A S [with the first B scratched out]
CONDITION DETAILS:
- Vinyl (EX): Stunning, deep mirror-like gloss with pristine ABC rainbow target labels. Visually gorgeous and plays with breathtaking analog depth, punchy bass, and absolute clarity.
- Gatefold Jacket (EX): Thick, glossy original gatefold jacket. Crisp, fully legible spine and sharp corners with only negligible vintage storage edge-wear. No splits, writing, or stains.
- Inner Sleeve: Original glossy, heavy-paper lyric/credits sleeve insert is clean and fully intact with no splits.
Professionally packed and shipped.
