Pretzel Logic is Steely Dan's third studio album, released February 20, 1974 — and the last to accompany a live tour. The road after this album's release proved so grueling for Walter Becker and Donald Fagen that they retired Steely Dan as a touring band afterward, dissolving the original quintet and pivoting entirely to the studio. They wouldn't return to performing live until the 1990s. The album itself is a high point: "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," the lead single, climbed to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became their biggest-charting song to that point. Produced by Gary Katz and recorded at the Village Recorder and Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles, October 1973 through January 1974.
This is the Command Quadraphonic pressing — catalog CQD-40015 — on ABC's prestige 4-channel subsidiary imprint, featuring a distinct quad mix and pressed at the Columbia Records Pressing Plant in Santa Maria, California ("S" etched in runouts). The Command Quadraphonic label was ABC's audiophile-grade designation for 4-channel releases, and this pressing attracts both Steely Dan collectors and quad enthusiasts alike. Comes in the original gatefold sleeve.
