This handsome gatefold album – a still-sealed copy – from Command Classics (CC 11033 SD, US pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably gold label*, stereo) features conductor William Steinberg and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s magnificent account of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major Op. 68 “Pastorale”.
This is a stirring, glorious performance, vital and exultant, a recording that should be far better known. The sound is absolutely first rate (based on my own copy).
This remarkable performances was set down at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, Pittsburgh, on 7 and 9 June 1965 (producer: Enoch Light / associate producers: Robert Byrne and Julie Klages / recording chiefs: Robert Fine and Robert Eberenz / engineers: George Piros and John Johnson).
The interior panels of the gatefold jacket contain authoritative liner notes by F.B. Weille, printed in English only. Art direction was supervised by Charles E. Murphy.
*Note: Based on the weight of the set, I believe this to be the first issue (ED1); however, I cannot guarantee that.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the still-sealed jacket is near-MINT. There is minor bumping at corners, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears virtually as new. There are no owners' markings, bends, seamsplits, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy. Overall, this is a truly fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
