Description
The seminal Asphyx EP by Sterac, an alias of the legendary Dutch techno producer Steve Rachmad. While your notes point to 1998, this timeless piece of electronic music history was originally released in 1995 under the catalogue number PURE 09 on the famous Amsterdam-based imprint 100% Pure.
The Famous Tracklist Misprint
The most notable piece of trivia regarding the original 100% Pure vinyl release is a major label misprint. The track titles for the A-side and B-side were completely swapped at the pressing plant.
The Error: The track everyone came to know and love as "Asphyx" was actually meant to be titled "X-Tracks".
The Reason: Steve Rachmad intentionally named it "X-Tracks" because he panned the audio elements heavily to the left and right channels, creating a "crossing" stereo illusion.
The Legacy: The misprint was so widespread that the mistake stuck for decades until modern reissues finally corrected the order.

The EP is widely considered a timeless masterpiece of "machine soul"—blending the futuristic, emotional depth of Detroit techno with hypnotic, spacey, and dubby textures.

"Pacifica": A lush, more ambient-leaning techno track filled with warm pads and intricate drum programming.
Availability and Modern Reissues
Because original 1995 copies on 100% Pure are highly sought after by collectors, the tracks have been preserved through several modern represses:
Remastered Reissues: Delsin Records launched an archival series that remastered these four tracks directly from Steve Rachmad's original DAT tapes.
Artwork: The reissues feature striking visual layouts by Boris Tellegen (also known as the iconic graffiti artist Delta), who designed Rachmad's earliest album sleeves.
