Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990 just as the first single from this LP, the beautiful Motown Soul inspired workout “Tic Tock,” was about to climb the charts and make the Blues Rock hero an international superstar.

The poetic CHANGE IT which foreshadowed Vaughans recovery from addiction by a year is what really stands out as a major feature of this LP. Jimmie had followed Stevie down the road to sobriety. These New York City sessions were a spirited collaboration intended to mark the beginning of their musical partnership. While some tunes sound like the result of mere jamming, Telephone Song, is one of Stevie’s best numbers, an eloquent Blues shout with screaming guitar breaks and Jimmies B-3 organ like textures on steel guitar astound. Other songs included here are - Hard To Be - White Boots - D/Fw - Good Texan - Hillbillies From Outer Space - Long Way From Home - Baboom/Mama Said and Brothers.

IN STEP embraces Blues and Rock without compromising the primal joys of either. This is Stevie Ray Vaughan’s best studio Album and the first he recorded sober. TRAVIS WALK offers a heady rush of flat picking, THE HOUSE IS A ROCKIN’ is a full tilt roots boogie, LET ME LOVE YOU BABY and LEAVE MY GIRL ALONE are sweet Blues epiphanies, and the 9 minute instrumental RIVIERA PARADISE is a truly soulful mix of Blues and Jazz. By now, just a year before his untimely death, Vaughan had also tamed his brawling voice into a rich instrument. In short, this 1989 session is Vaughan at his artistic peak. Additional songs are CROSSFIRE - TIGHTROPE - WALL OF DENIAL - SCRATCH N SNIFF - LOVE ME DARLIN.

COULDN'T STAND THE WEATHER- Stevie Ray Vaughan makes the point that music used to be more based on common everyday occurrences like a train sound going down the track or a horse walking. This LP includes Vaughan’s heartbreak chronicles Couldn’t Stand The Weather and Cold Shot, his first jazzier Stang’s Swang, and his initial Hendrix outing - Voodoo Chill (Silent Return). It’s the sound of the guitar hero growing as an artist on his own terms side-stepping the irony that poisoned ‘90s rock to stay true to the real life aesthetic of the Blues. Also included are Scuttlebutting - Things I Used To Do - Tin Pan Alley - Honey Bee.
