Grading
These grading terms have been written by myself after looking through various guides on the internet and also my own interpretation.
Vinyl Grading
Mint - Should look like brand new but even if it is brand new there should be no bubbles or pits in the vinyl at all, these are not excepted. Very rare to find vinyl as Mint but these vinyls should play without any sound defects due to scuffs or marks, should have signs that the vinyls have been handled with great care.
Near Mint - Very minor scuffs marks are allowed in this grading, no more than 15% of the surface. They should still play with no sound loss due to the scuffs, any scuffs that can be felt with your finger tips are known as scratches, thee do not make this grade.
Very Good - Will almost always have some surface noise but look as though they have still be handled with care. May look faded, slightly grayish because of surface scuffs but these should not overpower the dynamics of the music.
Good - Look very well played, dull, grayish and also may have been possibly abused, however a good vinyl should still play. Also, you should still be able to enjoy the full dynamics of the music even with a loss of sound quality due to wear from being played.
Cover Grading
Mint - Looks as though it has never had a record inside, no wear to the corners or any marks to the face or back of the cover. Looks like it has just been made still.
Near Mint - Artwork should still be as close to perfect as it can be. May have some minor impression wear (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear. Corners can show white but only slight, no seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs.
Very Good - These covers look worn and used, may have some seam splitting or ring wear which has caused the ink to begin to wear off. Maybe some writing on the cover but not in marker or any large lettering. May look aged and more yellowish due to contaminants in the air, should still atleast have some attractive life to it.
Good - Looks as though there seems to be quite a few things wrong with it, may have seam splits, writing on cover but the artwork can still be noticed. Fading of the artwork due to wear, any tears may be repaired with tape but nothing like duct or masking tape.
