Very rare Stevie Wonder single. According to 45 RPM price guides this record was UNRELEASED.  There are some contentions about how many copies were actually pressed and why a record dated 1964 does not have the Tamla globes design. Some people say there was about 6 copies pressed in 1966 (hence the brown bar label design) to coincide with Stevies' Uptight LP (which includes this song) There were only 6 due to, once again, someone at Motown wanting the 45 release scrapped. These arguments actually make sense, since it does have the brown bar design circa 1966. The only other contention left then is how many copies were actually pressed. Some say 4, some say 6...since I ended up with this copy from a Pacific Northwest estate sale, I would guess there was perhaps a few more than 6, but since collectors have said they have looked for years for this, I would say not more than a handful were pressed. Now, for the details...this record looks like new old stock on the very high glossy surface. There are no scratches. There is one minute minor scuff at the end of Tears in Vain that does not cause any sound issues. Looking under a strong light, I can see a couple of tiny scuff marks on the Pretty Little Angel side that does not cause any sound issues. It does have a drill hole, but I did not down grade, because I believe all of the copies may have the drill hole. The dead wax reads:
Pretty Little Angel: DM PLB-106302, Nashville Matrix, and the number 10, all appear etched. Tears in Vain: PQX-091320, Nashville Matrix, and the number 10, all etched. Then RK4M-2153-1 E stamped.            (sorry the dead wax pictures were a little fuzzy) In a web search someone asserted that the stamper listed above is an RCA matrix. VJ'S VINYL GRADING SYSTEM:
Mint - never used, once a record is opened, the top you can get is mint minus. Mint Minus - A great record, one or two fine hairline scuffs, sounds flawless. A mint minus record can "play" mint. Covers are new looking, may have shrink. Excellent - Can have faint hairline scuffs that do no affect play. Can have very minor infrequent crackling. Minor bumps in the cover. VG+ - Scuffs can be more prevalent, with a little more surface noise. If it visually has more scuffs but plays great, I will note that. Still, a very fine and playable copy. Covers have minor age and shelf wear.  VG - Can have lots of hairline scuffs, and maybe one or two scratches. Surface noise more prevalent with some popping in spots. Covers have more extensive age and shelf wear. Minor splits. VG minus - More in the way of scratches and surface noise is NOT infrequent. Still, a viable copy. Covers may have splits.  G+ - only reserved for a very rare or popular record. Very noisy, maybe some skips, scratches are evident. Covers are trashed.  STILL SEALED - I will grade the vinyl as "still sealed." That means it's probably mint minus, but I do not know if there was any factory defects.  Hairline scuffs -  are light yet visible. You cannot feel them with the skin of your finger. (I cannot fathom feeling it with your fingernail as described in Goldmine...why would you do that?) Scratches you can feel. If I am on the fence between grades, I will go with the lower one.  I will not use VG++ etc., but will say that a record is a "strong" VG+. "Age wear" on a cover is either fading or yellowing. "Shelf wear" is ring wear, corner bumps, or fraying.
